Workaround GDM/KDM always starting X bugs?

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – I want to run XDMCP on a server that does not have a working graphical display. Both GDM and KDM have bugs where they ignore whatever directives in their config files, and attempt to start the X server with hard coded arguments. I’ve got #1 kdm-4.3.1-9.fc11.i586 gdm-2.26.1-13.fc11.i586 GDM’s bug is documented here. GDM has /etc/gdm/custom.conf. If you specify Code: [servers] 0=inactive Then the X server is not supposed to start. KDM’s bug is documented here. KDM has /etc/kde/kdm/Xservers. If you comment out the local x server line Code: #:0 local /usr/bin/X :0 Then the X server is not supposed to start. But both KDM and GDM always try to start X anyway. If I rename the X server so that it cannot be started, GDM refuses to start XDMCP. KDM fills up my /var/log/messages with complains that the X server keeps dying. Is there a better way to work around these? (HowTos)
