Hello all, my name is John and I am currently living in china but I'm from Virginia, I have just installed Ubuntu on my HP laptop and I am having a problem with the internet connection. At work there is a wireless connection that the computer will connect to with no problem but at home i have a Modem/Wireless route unit I'm guessing that's called a mini PPPOE?
Hello guys, am totally new to the world of Linux, and Ubuntu to be more specific. My problem goes thus;
I am using a Huawei USB modem on Ubuntu 11.10 i just installed. i created a new wireless connection with the name "UbuntuAdhoc", which i followed from another thread. I then tried sharing the internet connection running on Ubuntu with XP using WLAN.
Hi. This is an old problem for me, but apparently insolveable. Thought I'd try again, maybe someone here can help.
I cannot use the wireless internet connection in my house. My computer sees the connection. It is ChinaNet-zbgJ. The password is xutuhamh
The router is brand new, installed yesterday. The internet provider upgraded me and made the connection a bit faster.
This question is not really related to Ubuntu directly as it's about networking and a little problem I'm having at the moment.
I use century link as provider. I can connect to ubuntu with out turning router on,, Why? I am concerned about privacy issues! Where or what am I connecting to? Using Dell laptop with wireless modem. Wireless connection not linked to modem because power to that modem in off. I live in apt complex where a linux connection registers as poor but does not indicate I am connected.
I saved my father's old laptop by installing Fedora off of a dvd included in Linux For Dummies. Everything is working okay, except for the internet connection. When I right-click on the Network Manager applet, it gives me a menu with only Enable Networking, Connection Information, which is faded and unusable, and About.
Hi all, i am trying to use my laptop (running Ubuntu) to take the connected wireless network to allow a separate computer (win7) to be wired to the Ethernet port and be connected to the Internet.
To reiterate,
I want to bridge my Ethernet and wireless connections so that a computer connected can use the Internet.
Modem---(wireless)---> Ubuntu Laptop---(Ethernet port)--- Win7 Desktop

I just installed Ubuntu on my laptop yesterday and it connected to the wireless fine. Then I took it to school, put it on their wired connection, downloaded some stuff, and now the wireless doesn't work.
At first it would detect networks, but not connect. I restarted it and now it can connect, but it acts like it doesn't have internet in the browser. Wired connection still works fine on it.
