Hello I've been running samba3 via mac ports on osx for quite sometime. I don't use it very often but recently I noticed I could no longer login. I know I've done system updates to osx, but now I get some weird error when trying to start it.
My NAS runs Linux and currently directly shares its XFS directories. Since I want to use encryption (e.g. TrueCrypt or dm-crypt/LUKS), I have the freedom of filesystem choice for the container. All clients run Windows 7, so which filesystem should I use for the shared container to have the least amount of compatibility issues? The fact that e.g.

If i want to add user Joe, i do NOT want to do sudo adduser joe
sudo passwd joe
sudo smbpasswd -a joe
So i followed the hints under
I am running Ubuntu as a server, but with X-windows setup. I have SSH , Samba and RAID 5 setup. Was having trouble browsing Samba shares from my Windows 7 laptop, so I thought it might be a problem with the version of Samba and started installing Samba4.
Well, Samba4 was whole another bucket worms. I managed to get the install process to partially finish.
