ANY help would be appreciated!
I have a Toshiba C855-S5347 laptop, and I installed 64-bit Ubuntu 13.04 beside Windows 8. The system won't boot into Ubuntu. Boot-Repair failed. I took a look at the partitions with GParted and /dev/sda3, flagged as a msftres partition, came up with a warning and the notation "unknown filesystem". My efi partition is /dev/sda2, /dev/sda1 is a Toshiba recovery partition.
I have EFI Windows 8 in my Asus K55V laptop. EFI partition is sda1.
I tried to install Ubuntu in EFI mode and selected separate boot partition as Ubuntu boot loaded.
Ubuntu installed perfectly, but I got 2 boot entries in EFI setup. When I tried to delete it in EFI setup, it restored on restart.
So I tried doing boot-repair, the thing is it added Grub2 to my sda partition.
So, I don't know what exactly how I managed to delete the MBR record on windows partition. But let me explain what I did next, I ran the ubuntu boot repair tool and now Windows is not even listed in my grub loader.
So I went and booted with windows cd and choose repair. Then I ran ubuntu boot repair again via live cd. Here is the log http://paste.ubuntu.com/1426181/. Still no luck.
Earlier today i installed ubuntu 12.10 beta. Grub wasn't booting, but just going directly to my primary OS Windows 7. I assumed i had partitioned incorrectly, because partitioning isnt my strong suit. I used boot repair because it was well recomanded off a live usb. Afterwards, grub appeared, but i only had options for Ubuntu, Advanced Ubuntu Option, and my hidden windows 7 recovery partition.
I installed ubuntu 12.10 alongside windows 8. did the partitioning manually. booting into windows 8 works fine but when I attempt to boot into ubuntu I get an error that a file is missing. I ran boot repair and was given this link http://paste.ubuntu.com/1679407
Hello,
I tried to intall ubuntu 12.10 64bit (usb) on my new Sony T series. I disabled secure boot and followed instuctions from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI
I can boot to ubuntu but windows 8 will not boot and I just get the Invalid EFI file path" error. (I think Bug #1024383) As the instructions said I booted to live usb again and ran disk-repair (paste.ubuntu/1406514).
I am using ubuntu 12.04 from last 4 months. Previously I had windows 7 and after installing ubuntu I completely deleted the windows partition. Now I want to install windows xp back into the partition which had win 7 using usb. But while installing it giving an error saying hal.dll missing.
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my computer without problems, but after rebooting i got the following error:
Error: No such partition
grub rescue>
I am a novice with ubuntu and any detailed instructions to the problem will be highly appreciated.
I ran boot repair as per the following:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install -y boot-repair
