i am not able to get my wifi working consistently in ubuntu. At times when wifi is switched on in windows and I switch to ubuntu, wifi networks are recognized. But if i try and turn on wifi in ubuntu, there is no change. I get the message that the wireless is disabled by the hardware switch and indeed I see no blue light to indicate that the wifi is on.

I've a problem with wifi in my Desire S and actually I don't know if it's software or hardware related. The problem:
Wifi switch is On, but no network scans at all, sometimes networks appear, but just for two, three seconds, and then no networks again.

Trying to use Joli OS on my Acer Aspire One D257 but when I log on my wifi is disabled and I can't get it to connect to my network (can't even switch the wifi on).
I'm not fantastic with computers but Joli worked fine on my previous laptop and I'm not sure how to fix it.

First off, I am a total newbie and really appreciate any help. On to the question. I have an HP 620 running Zorian OS 5.2. The Internet works fine when it's a wired connection but drops off dramatically on wifi. It also worked fine both wired and wifi on Windows 7.
So far I have disabled the iPV6 and paid $38 to Just Answers.com. Neither did the trick.
I have a small issue with my Ubuntu 9.10 Beta. Actually all function keys ('FN' +) work quite well out of the box. No problem with sound volume, background light etc.
My S2 WIFI can't enable WIFI, then try different means to check but hardware failed. However the WIFI keep on "Enable WIFI" leaking battery and make the case very hot.
So, how can I switch off forever? I have rooted with stock ROM 4.1.2
