I was using UCK to customize an Ubuntu 11.10 image, and ran a dist-upgrade on it (from the console) to try to update all of the packages on it. The upgrade worked successfully for all but two packages, so I tried again and got the same error message. This is what happened:
# sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

I know there may not be an answer to this but out of curiosity does anyone know what time of day* would be best to run an upgrade for Sid? Currently I sometimes do so first thing in the morning then will do so in the evening also.
so folks, what is the proper way to make a dist-upgrade? my smxi script and also my siduction install say i have to upgrade outside of X. on my #! waldorf installation i have done this simply by open a terminal and fire up the needed command, no issues so far.
I had this problem the first time I installed Ubuntu, and with every dist-upgrade since then. I eventually fix it, but I've never known why it's fixed, and then it gets broken again.

I have heard nothing but bad things about using dist-upgrade in Ubuntu to update to a new release-- lots of bugs, and so on. Has anyone had more success recently (e.g. Lucid to Maverick)
Looks like a tsunami of package updates has hit sid. These are the sort of problems you may run into tracking sid.Have you ran an dist-upgrade on sid recently? You should do that regurarly on sid as bugs get detected and corrected. Often just waiting a couple hours/days, running update and dist-upgrade again will solve things.
Following a periodic, in my case weekly, run of:
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
is there much benefit from rebooting?
This morning, I cloned a completely updated and patched Ubuntu 10.04 x64 server for the purpose of updating to 12.04.
The 12.04 update seemed to go fine, but after the reboot, the first
Code:
# apt-get update
# apt-get dist-upgrade
failed with this output:
Code:
# apt-get dist-upgrade
