I'm having some doubt regarding media codec's in Ubuntu.
My question is why Lubuntu shipped with all the necessary medic codec and at the same time ubuntu/Xubuntu don't have any?

hi all i have question how to convert and extract audio from video file, i

I have a very slow internet connection so therefore I'd like to use the G729 audio codec with Linphone and Voipbuster (actually I'd prefer to use Ekiga but this isn't available for Quantal Quetzal 12.10 and has no G729). Apparently it should be possible to use G729 with Linphone, see here. I downloaded the tar.gz file and followed installation instructions.
Here is the update for previous Vista Codec Package. This is Vista Codec Package 5.6.9. This new release include some update like: update gabests filters 184,update ffdshow 3406 and some important updates. Basically, few times ago, I have so many trouble with codecs, to play some multimedia file on my Windows box.
I'm not sure if this forum is the best place to post this, but I'm having a problem with VLC, and I figured I'd start my search for a fix here. Basically, I have a video in .mkv format, and upon playing it in VLC, I get audio but the video is just a blank green screen. Does anyone know of any problems like this with VLC? As far as I know, I have the latest version of the player.
