Why is system monitor hogging CPU?

view story

http://askubuntu.com – I had nothing better to do last night than stare at my system monitor. As I was engaged in this activity, I became concerned that my CPU usage was nearing 50 or 60 percent, even though I was doing nothing but staring at the system monitor. When I clicked the processes tag, I discovered it was the system monitor itself that was using up to 50% of the CPU! So it seems like this is a problem with the measuring device, no? Is there a better tool for monitoring CPU usage that doesn't actually overuse the CPU? Is the monitor actually using 50 percent of a high-end cpu? Or is it a problem with t (HowTos)
