Why is SLiM slow to load after changing /etc/network/interaces?

http://unix.stackexchange.com – I am using Debian with the SLiM login manager. At the time I installed the system, I had no DHCP connection, so I setup a PPPoE account using pppoeconf. This created /etc/network/interfaces, which looked like this: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto dsl-provider iface dsl-provider inet ppp pre-up /sbin/ifconfig eth0 up # line maintained by pppoeconf provider dsl-provider auto eth0 iface eth0 inet manual Recently, I changed Internet providers and can now simply use DHCP. I tried following the instructions at the Debian Wiki about NetworkConfiguration and simply changed /etc/network/interf (HowTos)
