I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, and at the time it was released, it was using v3.2.0-23 for both the generic and lowlatency kernels. However, since then, generic keeps getting updated and the lowlatency kernel is not updating anymore:
Current Generic version: 3.2.0-30
Current LowLatency version: 3.2.0-23
What happened here?
I updated ubuntu from 12.04 to 12.10 and my system is using the linux kernel "3.5.0-17-lowlatency".
Last time I looked into this, lowlatency wasn't officially supported. See this question.
Is the lowlatency kernel supported in 12.10 and turned on by default? I wasn't running this lowlatency in 12.04 so I'm wondering how this happened.
Hello,
What is the easiest way to revert back to an older kernel version?
If I do a fresh install, what's the easiest path to update to a specific kernel version?
I have two machines and need both to be in perfect sync version both are 11.10 based.
Can someone please detail how to install the interim -lowlatency kernel available in Allesio Bogani's PPA?
I read about it on the Ubuntu Studio home page and I have already added Allesio's PPA.
I am using Ubuntu 11.10 32 bit on notebook core 2 duo, 4GiB RAM.
In order Ubuntu to detect and use more than 3GiB RAM, I apt-get PAE Kernel. The problem comes when there were two update of kernel, linux-generic kernel and linux-generic-pae.
Should I update linux-generic-pae kernel only? if the answer yes, how to stop update notification of linux-generic kernel?
The last two times I ran freebsd-update install the machine (re)booted from the GENERIC kernel instead of my custom kernel.
As suggested by Freebsd Update (section 25.2.2) I have a GENERIC kernel in /boot/GENERIC:
Note: It is a good idea to always keep a copy of the GENERIC kernel in /boot/GENERIC.
It will be helpful in diagnosing a variety of problems, and in performing version
upgrades using f
I'd like to block all distribution-shipped kernel updates due to a nasty thing that recently happened to me. (I'm on a Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 derivative.)
I'd like to block all updates to installed kernels of the minor version 3.2 to the linux-headers, linux-headers-generic, linux-image, and linux-image-extra packages.
OK so I have an GS2 running:
rom = 20120806 CM9
kernel version = 3.0.32-CM-ge9cef6cinky-ghost@cyanogenmod#1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 5
Baseband = I9100XXKE7
Android = 4.0.4
Ok so I did the whole Odin thing for the first and only time around March/April updating from GB and haven't touched the kernel version of this phone again so it's quite old.
I have updated my kernel headers, what does that mean for the kernel?
I heard that generic headers/kernels are NOT the "real" linux kernel. I currently have the 3.5.0-generic linux, but my father said I shouldnt have chosen this one because its a development headers and potentially unstable (which I experienced it with some versions of it).
He said I should get the 3.2.0-headers/kernel.
