I'm trying to install 12.10 from a burned DVD. When I try to boot from the disc, I'm met with a Grub screen that shows four options (the standard "Try Ubuntu without installing" / "Install Ubuntu" list). No matter which option I select, the DVD spins for a bit and the screen goes black.
I've tried multiple verified Live DVDs.
I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed. To try Linux I downloaded Ubuntu 64 bit and burned it to a DVD.
Well, my computer is getting old so I had decided to try out Lubuntu. Originally I had just installed lxde on Ubuntu and used that, but when it came time for 12.04 I wanted to do a clean install of Lubuntu.
At first I tried to install the 64 bit version via USB flash drive.
Hi All:
So this is a pretty general question, and I think I know how it works, it's just I want to check to make sure I got it right.
I have this laptop that I use the most, and I decided to run Ubuntu on it too so I can constantly practice using Ubuntu. The thing is, I don't think I want to install Ubuntu (as a dual boot) alongside Windows, so I'm going the Live CD route.
I have a dual boot of Win7 and Ubuntu on my HP laptop. I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04 today and on restart I got a different black Grub screen instead of the usual purple one. (GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3.1) Each boot option only returns error messages.
I tried installing Ubuntu 64bit on my new laptop which now has Windows 7 64bit (preinstalled). I want to install Ubuntu and keep Windows 7.
I burned .iso on a CD, I put it in CD drive and rebooted. I saw a keyboard logo and then there was a black empty screen. I take the CD out of the CD drive and turned off using the power button.
I then boot to Windows and ran wubi.exe that was on the disc.

i have exactly the same problem but also i cant boot from any live cd or live usb. Also when removal the hard disc from my laptop (aspire 5600) then boot normally from live cd.
i placed the hard disc as external to another pc and showed it up but i cant get into it.
i have tried several times to install ubuntu using wubi, i can't use a disc as i have a notebook computer and there is no optical drive.
the download and installation all seem to work well but whenever i try to boot ubuntu at the windows 7/ubuntu menu it comes up with this error screen.
I have used both the C: drive and the D: drive to install Ubuntu several times each, it's always unsuccessful.
Im trying to install Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell inspirion 8000, i cant boot with a flash drive so i can only use a disc and when starting the install after the loading dots I reach a screen that has a bunch of lines moving down the middle and the purple background of the Ubuntu install page. I can post a Picture if necessary. I know the disc is OK because it works on my computer.
