Why does #! install a 486 kernel on i686 machine?

http://crunchbanglinux.org – I recently installed #! Statler on a couple P4 CPU desktops and an Atom N450 Netbook. All of those have Hyper-Threaded, SMP capable processors. So why does #! install the 486 (non-SMP) image instead of the i686-pae image?On the bright side, I thought #! was phenominally fast, even without the SMP Kernel. I've updated to the i686-pae image now, and all seems well. But why install 486, non-SMP by default? (HowTos)
