I installed RHEL 6.1 with KDE 4.3.4 using LDAP on a PC and have now the problem to specifiy a user/Profile specific start menu.
I have used already the kmenuedit tool and tailored for one user a specific menu, successfully.
I changed as an example the konsole submenu.
The kmenuedit was generating a user specific file kde-konsole.setup of the edited menu file an stores it in the directory [B].
In other distros (using gnome, xfce, etc), when a program is installed it is typically added automatically to the menu in an appropriate category. I know there are programs that will generate this menu for openbox, but is there say a pipe-menu that can do this automatically on the fly?
I've noticed that when updating any GTK-bundle package App-Menu QML loses it's list of previous 'favourite shortcuts' probably due to the menu itself reading a previously generated file that has not been updated and so doesn't include the recent changes.
I have noticed that Kubuntu (I am using 12.04 version) doesn't use exactly the same repositories that Ubuntu. Or at least, that is what I think.
For example, if I search for Steam on Muon Software Center or Muon Package Manager, I just can't find it; even if I use sudo apt-get install steam-launcher. But on Ubuntu I have no problem.
Hi everyone,
One one of my PCś and a laptop I have installed F16 with KDE spin. Right after installation all my applications would show in the menu, just as they should.
I've written quite a few open source programs over the years, but not very recently, and I've never had this problem before. The menu items for my new project simply refuse to show up in menus on either gnome or kde.
I originally just installed the .desktop files to /usr/share/applications but later modified it to use desktop-file-utils - all to no avail.

I'm creating a bootable iso from a YUMI USB drive to burn on DVD's for friends. More info here.
I took the grldr and menu.lst from a bootable XBoot iso, but now I'm trying to figure out a way to get from the menu.lst to the syslinux.cfg menu?
Is this completely nonsensical?
