When I put them on my laptop computer, It saids

My Laptop's specification
CPU : Intel Pentium M 725 1.6GHz
VGA : Geforce FX Go5200 64MB
RAM : 1GB DDR

I extracted the .iso onto a disk, and tried to boot from it. For the longest time, it wouldn't even boot, instead, it would bypass it and boot from the hard drive, until I swapped my newer disk drive for an older one. When I finally got it to boot, I got the black screen.
Hello all. I have Ubuntu 12.04 installed on my Dell D610 laptop and it works better than new. I just purchased an HP Compaq NC6000 from the local pawn shop. It currently has Windows XP on it.
My desktop pc gives the following error when trying to install from a cd:

the install was erase ubuntu 10.1 and install 12.04 in it's place
but at the end of the install it was unable to put previously installed packages saying that I could install them after the install finished.

I installed Ubuntu on a Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop.
All of a sudden it rattles, squeels in a high pitch (for a few seconds), and then rattles (all the time) and then squeels a few seconds (cycle continues).
System won't boot or even enter boot menu if I choose that. I am now trying to boot from live cd - if it will do that then I know it's the HD that's fried.
I'm attempting to install Ubuntu 12.04LTS, 64 bit onto a Dell Inspiron 15R laptop. I've shrunk down one of the windows partitions and even used gparted to format the vacant space as ext4.
However, the install disk simply does not present any options when it comes to the partitioning step.
