Where to start with making a operating system [closed]

http://stackoverflow.com – I have an old HP pavillion computer that currently has windows 98 on it with only 127mb of RAM and 8GB of hard drive if I take windows 98 off of it. I would like to try to make my own operating system or work with a current version of linux and try to make an ideal operating system for my system. I realize that an operating system is a big deal to program, however I am up for trying it. Please let me know where a good starting point would be. I am a decent C++ programmer, if that would help any. Thanks in advance for your replies! (HowTos)

We designed one hardware which works perfectly with the C++ program tested on windows. Now we want to pack the product which includes the total system along with the Operating System and Application. For that we need you peoples help.
