I know the work PURE can be a wee bit vague, but let me explain. I have installed Lubuntu 12.04 on my PC. I wanted to try out Gnome 3, so in a terminal I did
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell
and I am now using Gnome 3. BUT, is there a way to use Gnome programs and applications and not use the Lubuntu ones?
I'm a bit confused about gnome-fallback and gnome-panel. My Ubuntu-Tweak (from tualatrix) says I'm using gnome-fallback as DE:
I remember I installed gnome 3, which comes with gnome-fallback. But I also have installed gnome-panel (I see it marked at Ubuntu Software Center). Could you explain to me the difference? Or it's the same.
Hi there! I'm a little curious, as GNOME Shell's really a great DE 'cause it's really about as customizable as GNOME 2 was if you think about it, if there's any way you can get MGSE in the GNOME spin of Fedora, as well as Docky and Conky. You can set up something like that easily in Fedora, or any other RPM-based GNOME Shell distro, such as Mageia, right?
This question is primarily for my own education. I first tried to install Fedora 18 choosing the Gnome desktop option, but the desktop was unusable after logging in (the appearance was of a font with mostly blank characters and occasional colored backgrounds). Later, I was successful at an install with the LXDE desktop choice.
