I think I have had enough of the useless Catfish. If there a search tool that will actually let me do file commands within it. For example, a program where I could copy/paste/delete search results? I can't do anything with the results in Catfish but memorize them and search for them one by one in Thunar.
I'm having the same problem.Tracker-search in the terminal works and returns everything I searched for. I even managed to get it working in the GNOME dash, using the tracker-search extension. But no matter what I do, Nautilus doesn't return any searches.
Catfish is a handy file searching utility for Linux, featuring a graphical frontend for different search tools.
The interface is lightweight and you can configure it to your needs by using advanced options.
Catfish has been updated to version 0.4.0. It features a revamped interface based on GTK+3.
In Windows' Acrobat reader, I can do an advanced search for some phrase, and a left pane displays all search results, which I can click on. Is there any similar program for Ubuntu? I'm using Ubuntu 12, and couldn't install acroread. The other applications (okular, evince) have a find/search command but no feature to display all results.
So I want something pretty simple :) App where I put a dir to search, and a string/regexp to search in the file contents recursively in that dir, and it gives a list of results.
I don't want something like 'tracker' that runs in the background and indexes things, I want something that just searches on demand like grep, given a path.
In windows I used grepWin which was pretty perfect for the purp
I have been using Ubuntu for some time now, but never really had the need to search for a specific file until recently. I used nautilus browser set to 'file system' to attempt to search the entire drive. The search lasted a second and turned up zero results.
In the upcoming version of Ubuntu – 12.10 (final is coming on oct 18th, 2012), when you do a default search in Unity dashboard, it also returns amazon products in results, along with some expected normal results.
As a regular user of amazon, I was quite eager to try out the Amazon search function in dash. I've got the latest beta of 12.10 with all the latest updates, but I'm not seeing any amazon search results in dash. I'm only seeing results from the ubuntu One Music store. Are search results disabled becouse I'm located in Norway?
i am supporting a number of bespoke applications at the minute and searching through their very non standard logs is a nightmare, so im looking for a tool which can do the following -
load large text files
search through multiple files at once and display all results
can search with regex
can be used to view and search unstructured text files
There are some great looking log tools available b
