I`m allowing myself to disagree with some of the advices you get here. I would decide which distro should be considered the main distro, and have that distro to control the grub of the others. It doesn`t really mather which order you install them by, as long as you ensure that you only install grub to MBR with your main distro, and install it to PARTITION for all the other distros.
I think it's better to start with Ubuntu or another user-friendly distro than try your hand at Arch. A lot of the things you talk about reveal a lack of knowledge about the inner workings of Linux (no offense; that's just how it is). Linux distros are extremely modular, and GUIs are interchangeable. Aesthetics, therefor, are as well.
Hello ! I am gsynk. Just installed #! ....Just love the simplicity of this distro. No eye candy, pure core and raw linux , jst the way it should be..I am a Software Engineer by profession, working mostly with sql server and visual studio. My love for linux distros started way back in college., when I first ran Ubuntu on my pc.
If you are a long time user of Windows or Mac and
want to try Linux, there is a high chance that your first distro will
be either Ubuntu, Linux Mint or Fedora since these distros are very
popular. However, there are some other distros that are more suitable for beginners in my opinion.
Hello!I am new to Crunchbang, and wish I had used it sooner. It is definitely the distro for me. I've distro hopped for the past 3 years. I've used Ubuntu, Debian, zenwalk, PClinuxOS, and a slew of other distros.
Ask someone to name a Linux distro, and if you don't get a blank look, chances are good that they'll say Ubuntu. After all, Canonical's distro is regarded by many as the "default" Linux distro. But could Google's two-prong offensive with both Android and Chrome OS sideline other distros and push them into obscurity?
I just got the usb bracelet that used to have songs by matchbox twenty on it. I'm really stoked to be carrying a distro around on my wrist now!But what Im really interested in is being able to have a small distro that can crack windows(preferably linux as well) passwords. The bracelet is only 247MB though. I cant see any other distro besides puppy linux fitting on it.
So, well...
There are lotsa tools to modify the system of Linux distro.
I would like to start own OS. But I s**k at such programming.
Lets say if I take Linux Fedora...
as of the last couple months i have been on a linux kick, getting quite bored with my Windows 7 builds. So i started in the only place i knew, Ubuntu. From there i branched like a virus testing every distro i could get my hands on (linux mint, freeBSD, netBSD, Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, KUbuntu, EdUbuntu, XUbuntu... well you get the idea.
