We have implemented a machine based group policy for our domain. We use this because we have different locations that have different proxy settings (same domain). The policy went into effect and was successful on 90% of our client pc's. The other 10% we are having to do a gpupdate /force and it usually has to be a local administrator of the machine to do it.

just upgraded fron 10.04 LTS to 12.04.1 LTS and I have a problem with the (minimalistic) approach for setting the system wide proxy settings.
I travel a lot and work in different environments each requiring different proxy settings with and without authenticitation as well as at home where I have no proxy.
In 10.04 LTS, I used to be able to save the configurations in the proxy-setting
