The latest incarnation of the XFCE desktop proves once again that when you delve into the wonders of the Linux OS, something old definitely becomes something new again. The Linux Mint 13 team has released a specially flavored distro built around the latest version of the XFCE interface.
Linux Mint Debian Edition has proven to be a popular release for the Linux Mint developers. It's certainly at the top of my list of favorite distros. Linux Mint Debian edition uses the GNOME desktop and, as good as it is, it's just not right for some folks (especially those on older or slower computers). Enter Linux Mint 201104 Xfce version.
Dell is smartly release the new Dell Vostro 3400, the new laptop for small business purposes. Dell Vostro 3400 is a good combination between mobility and power. This laptop is powered by Intel Core i5 430M at 2.26 GHz, 4GB DDR3 memory and 320 GB Hard drive capacity.
In one of my last reviews I covered Linux Mint 201104 Xfce, a distribution featuring the Xfce desktop environment that is based on Debian Testing. Linux Mint 201104 is a rolling release distro. Rolling release distros are great for some folks but not so great for others. In this review I cover Xubuntu 11.04, an Ubuntu derivative that also features the Xfce environment.
I tried different linux distro (Ubuntu 12.10 Gnome Remix, Fedora 18, Bridge Linux) on my new laptop but all of them have a problem with memory.
My laptop has 4 GB memory but Ubuntu recognize only 2,4 GB.
Obviously both BIOS and Windows 8 recognize all 4GB.
My laptop configuration:
Lenovo B590
CPU: Intel Core i5-3210M
Ram: 4 GB DDR3-SDRAM
Chipset motherboard: Intel HM77 Express
Integrated graphics
I have been using Puppy Linux for basic Linux needs, however now I would prefer one that has Ruby included, so that it does not have to be downloaded.
I would prefer a small distro that can run from a CD, smaller size preferred to decrease boot time. What would be a good choice for this?

hi,
I have a old desktop box that is running xubuntu with xfce ( 12.04.01 ).
It has two memory slots in it and the specs for the
motherboard show that it can max 2 gigs and run DDR up to PC3200 (400mhz).
I now have one slot filled with PC3200 , 1/2 gig.
I would like to verify that this chip is running at 400 mhz.
I started using Linux Mint 13 Mate a few days ago and I can't find anyway to change the width of my scrollbar, no matter it is firefox, chrome or File Manager.
I tried to search google with "Linux Mint 13 scrollbar size" or "Linux scrollbar size" as keywords but the result isn't useful.
I looked up all the option in Control Center and found nothing so I doubt they have a option in Linux Mint 13.
