What are the ways of making your own linux distro?

I've gotten the impression over the years of working with people who use any operating system that most of them do not want to get involved with tinkering. I understand that, especially with the Linux platform. It is very configurable, but much of its have-it-your-way appeal is reached outside the GUI.

You can do calculation stuffs easily with bash on the command line, however it isnt very intuitive. Bash still works well with some simple calculations but in case you want to perform more complicated calculations, this may become a real hassle. And that is why bc is a better tool for you to perform calculating on the command line.

I wish to run this tool in our unix servers. In windows O.S i just have to unzip and i can use this tool by running the .exe file. So i want to know how to run this tool in unix. i tried using ./TableTextCompare.exe.

I have downloaded the source for an embedded Linux system but no tool chain. I want/need a tool chain to rebuild the system image. Can anyone point me to a 'How to' for building the environment?

What's the best way to search my file system on ubuntu and get results almost instantly? I have used catfish , tracker and the usual search tool provided with ubuntu.

Tracker finds nothing, ubuntu search tool is too slow and catfish most of the time finds nothing. I have a lot of PDFs and DJVU files that I want to access.
