Weird issue with latest Compiz version (0.8.4-2)

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Okay, after I updated the compiz and compiz-gnome packages along with about 40 others a while ago it broke on me so I had to restore GNOME to default configuration. I tried to get Compiz running again after that but it complained that the window manager wasn't visible on display 0 even with the --replace option. No window decoration, no functionality of anything else (this applied both with the command line and the "Desktop Effects" box) and I couldn't even click on an open terminal window with Compiz enabled. So I tried a complete uninstall and reinstall from the CF repos, this time with the compiz-manager package. Quote: [kylereese@TechComm ~]$ compiz-manager & [1] 3164 [kylereese@TechComm ~]$ Checking for Xgl: not present. xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log egrep: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: Permission denied egrep: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: Permission denied egrep: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: Permission denied egrep: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: Permission denied egrep: /var/log/Xorg.0.log: Permission denied No whitelisted driver found aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity I can kill Compiz through the terminal, then go back to the Desktop Effects box and find Compiz checked. When I go back to standard, check Compiz and the "windows wobble when moved" box, I can get out of the Desktop Effects section, go back and find "windows wobble when moved" unchecked. What I've had to do since last update (leaving Compiz and Emerald in the "startup" section of GNOME doesn't cut it) is start Compiz through desktop-effects and then go to terminal and hit up compiz-manager. Why the extra step? (HowTos)
