I use the precompiled packages by enabling demizer's repo.
You should not use eCryptfs. It is not secure.Use LUKS/dm-crypt instead and provides the same benefits you are looking for in eCryptfs. EncFS's security is still questionable.Also, just a reminder that you can add an entry in the sudoers file for cryptsetup.
