It sounds like you need to rebuild the Catalyst module for your new kernel. I don't have an AMD card myself, but information should be available in the wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Catalyst

If you are interested in improving boot time then readahead collect and replay fits the bill:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _readaheadYou need to reboot a few times for it to be fully optimized.

Same thing happened to me but with catalyst-dkms. I had installed catalyst 12.9 and xorg 1.13 previously and all was working fine. I just now upgraded the kernel, rebooted and couldn't get in X. I had to reinstall catalyst-dkms to get it to work (I actually removed catalyst-dkms, catalyst-utils, and lib32-catalyst-utils before reinstalling but probably wasn't neceisary)
The first thing you need to know how to do is REISUB:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … uts#KernelIf you can do that, from a frozen system, then it will greatly minimize - but not eliminate - the potential corruption to your filesystem.

Why do you wan't to install catalyst from AMD's site? Any special reason? That is completely unadvised, once arch AUR already has it, all you need to know is in here:https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Catalyst

It's using the 12.9 beta which I'm guessing is needed for the latest kernel and Xorg. Alternatively, you can see if they have a "catalyst-test" pac

Are you using systemd? If so, you might have to reboot twice. The catalyst-dkms package (video driver for amd cards) in [community] currently has the same problems.
