wanted the setting for the PPPOE internet connection.....

Hello, I am living in China currently and i have to use a pppoe connection to connect to the internet. My problem occurs when i normally connect to the internet using the:

sudo pon dsl-provider

This connects me for around 25 seconds to the internet and than just hangs up and stops the connection. Does anyone know why this occurs?

Need some information on how to setup the router.

I don't know if it is a standard way, but below is how my ISP provides Internet access.

I have a LAN cable coming in and the LAN connection is configured as follows -

IP - 169.254.xx.xx subnet - 255.255.0.0 gateway - 192.168.0.1 DNS - some IPs

I am on a network with PPPoE connection for internet acces.I want to find out my network ipv4. Example:

-on Windows 7 I can see both my PPPoE's connection ip and local network ip, either from properties of the connection, either from cmd with ipconfig command

-on ubuntu I can only see the PPPoE's ip

I cam across this problem after trying to lookup another ubuntu pc on the network.

hi all, i installed Windows XP as guest in VirtualBox and i do not have any internet connection. my guest os (win xp) get me this message: Limit or no connectivity!

but when i installed Linux Mint or Ubuntu as other guset i had internet connection !

does i install any package in host for use internet in win xp guest? or have other solution? what is problem?

I am using wireless connection with my internet provider.

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop and I use a 3G USB modem for my Internet connection.

I wanted to share this Internet connection with my girlfriend's laptop that is running Window XP. Basically, I created the the wireless connection on my laptop and now it just connects and disconnects all the time. Why is it doing this?

I own an HP ProBook 4520s laptop which is dual-booted with Windows 8 Pro and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I use a wired PPPoE internet connection, which works fine in Windows. But for the last few days I can't use it in Ubuntu. When I start the connection from terminal it doesn't show any errors, but I can't load any webpages in Firefox.

I'm using OpenSUSE 11.2. I can't figure out how to make the internet connection work. I tried setting it up but Firefox can't get to any web sites. Can someone tell me where there is instructions on how to set up the internet connection. Thanks for any help.

P.S. Why doesn't OpenSUSE set up the internet connection automatically like Ubuntu and Mepis do? Just wondering.
