And that’s a wrap! The Apple Store is back up now, following this morning’s announcement of the new LTE-enabled iPhone 5′s, which are going to be the same price as the iPhone 4S’s. To refresh your memory, that’s $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for 64GB (on-contract pricing with AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon).
At the Apple live event, Tim Cook announced that the iPhone 4S will still be available and the price will drop to $99.
Apple is perpetuating the same strategy by keeping the previous generation iPhone in its line-up to attract customers concerned by the price. The iPhone 4 will stay in the lineup as well and Apple will give it away if you sign a two-year contract in the U.S.
Apple today announced that it managed to rack up 2 million pre-orders for the iPhone 5 in 24 hours, two times as many as it managed for the iPhone 4S last year, which sold over 1 million devices during its first 24 hours of pre-order sales.
