I installed SMXI on my laptop and ever snce then I've noticed an intermittent problem where it will not power off.Shutting down the laptop gives the appearance that everything is shutdown, i get the text display after selecting shutdown and the the screen goes black. To the casual observer it would appear that the laptop has switched off, however the power LED on the side of the laptop

ceeslans, I didn't read smoki's links but I had the exact same thing before updating my video card driver. Let me guess: nvidia? If it is indeed a nvidia card, I suggest you try installing the latest driver. There is thread here on the forums which explains how to do a smooth install. Alternatively you can install it via the smxi script, also documented on the forums.
