GNOME 3 has been out for a while now and it certainly got a lot of attention in the Linux world. Some love it, some hate it, but if you haven't been able to see it for yourself, though you've been meaning to, this is your chance.GNOME has released live images, based on both Fedora and OpenSUSE, that feature Gnome 3 in it... This tutorial will explain how to open file from console with preferred application in Ubuntu, just like when double-click on a .mp3 file in nautilus, rhythmbox player launches and plays the music, also urls can be open with the default web browser from the terminal.

GNOME on openSUSE 12.2
openSUSE 12.2 is the second openSUSE release to include GNOME 3. GNOME 3.4 continues the rapid pace of evolution and consolidation set by GNOME 3.2 on openSUSE 12.1.
Hi everybody! I`m waiting the final release of openSUSE 11.3, and in the mean time, I want to know what will bring...
I used Milestone 2 in VirtualBox, and beside the new version of Gnome/KDE, and the last program versions... I don`t see any difference comparing it to openSUSE 11.2
By the way... I didn`t saw differences between openSUSE 11.1 and 11.2...
I have been playing around with OpenSUSE KDE. I find myself removing all of the KDE applications and using the GTK programs I am used to (Pidgin, Banshee, etc.). So I think it makes more sense for me to install the Gnome version (which I like). I have been running Ubuntu and have a separate home partition.
The wait is finally over and the much anticipated release of GNOME 3 on openSUSE’s latest distro release, 11.4 is ready for download at a desktop near you. Frederic Crozat, a member of the openSUSE GNOME Team, has been working tirelessly, burning the midnight oil getting GNOME3 stable enough for you all to use. See his blog for the full details.
I installed ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop. I have tried other distros including OpenSUSE and Fedora (17), both with Gnome3. I really like Gnome3, and wanted to install it on ubuntu.
I managed to do so, but it lags and runs slowly compared with it on Fedora/OpenSUSE.
Hi,
There is always talk of other distributions (Fedora, Ubuntu, etc). I thought it would be nice to see everyone's top 5.
Mine is:
openSUSE
Arch
Fedora
CrunchBang
Mandriva
openSUSE:
I've been using opensuse as a hobby since 10.1, but since installing 11.2 in VirtualBox on a Win7 64-bit 4GB machine worked pretty good I thought I'd try Kubuntu to compare since I'd never used it.
