How do I change the display screen to an external monitor?
I have an IBM ThinkPad X4 UltraBase laptop. It's elderly, but useful, works fine.
It has a video port on the back. The BIOS Video settings are: Internal / PCI. I have changed them to no apparent effect.
Screen flickers and scrolls and is unusable for the TVOUT/SVIDEO port on a intel D945GCLF2 with integrated 82945G/GZ GPU.
I disabled other displays and tried all available resolutions, with no success.
I also installed the following package:
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
then rebooted, and tried all resolutions, with no success.
This worked out of the box on a previous ubuntu r
I've been using the netbook remix 9.04 Jaunty on the Acer AspireOne. Everything works great but recently I started using an external monitor/keyboard.
At seemingly random times, the external video goes black. I can often toggle the built-in lcd to come back on using the Fn-screen key combo but nothing seems to fix the external video except a reboot.
Hey there,
I'm currently using an external screen with my laptop at home connected with a serial port.
When I'm in X, my laptop display is automatically disabled, when the external screen is connected.
Is there a way to do this also at boot time? Where do I have to configure this? Also I'd like to have my login shells on my external screen, when switching to them out of X.
Thank you.
I just downloaded linux and instaled it. Ok so far, i rebooted and selected Ubuntu, a loading screen comes with ubuntu and a purple background, but the screen trembles a little. After the the loading ends my external screen blacks out and says No signal found 3.2khz 4.7hz.
I have a vaio laptop with an ATI Radeon video card and an external screen.
I used to run dual monitors on Ubuntu 10.10 fine, but recently decided to upgrade to 11.10 via 11.04
I don't think it's the video card or the fglrx driver. It seems to be unity.
When I start up, the laptop screen is normal and the external screen is all white, although I can move my mouse over it.
I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Toshiba Tecra A8 laptop. It has Intel 945GM graphics.
All my hardware components work fine except for the external monitor. When I plug in the monitor cable to the external VGA port, Ubuntu detects it, but the screen goes black and I don't get anything displayed – both on the LCD and the external monitor.
How can I solve this?
I have a macbook air with intel graphics, yesterday I disabled the laptop screen while I used an external screen and today whenever I plug it in the laptop screen goes off and the external monitor does not come on.
I installed 11.10 on my desktop. After the intro screen from the Intel motherboard, I just get a black screen. I've looked at the various fixes online which would require access to tty1 but hitting Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work for me. I just remain stuck at the screen.
