graysky wrote:Does vlc auto detect vdpau or is there a setting in the GUI to use it? Try it with mplayer making sure your ~/.mplayer/config contains:vo=vdpau
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffodivxvdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,with mplayer package, the video plays and lags;with mplayer-vaapi package, the video doesn't play.

Hello fellow Ubuntu Users,
I really hope you can help me out here, in your journey through Ubuntu you surely have stumbled upon VDPAU (if you have ever watched a 1080p movie), the problem is, I searched the entire universe of internet and cannot find a solution to my problem, VDPAU just doesn't like me or my GPU or my CPU, it won't start working, I'm using SMplayer with VDPAU setting for codec an
I've read about VDPAU and how it enables mplayer to have Hardware acceleration. But i also read that it's only for Nvidia cards
How can i enable it on a non Nvidia card (mine it's a AMD but i would like to enable this in an Intel netbook too)? and will this work for other video players ?.
Hello everyone, I have a very specific problem with KDE and mplayer video playback. If I'm using vdpau as video output in mplayer and I switch to fullscreen mplayer will hang if anything is drawn on top of the video output.
Any advantage in using VDPAU without the ffh264vdpau, ffmpeg12vdpau, ffwmv3vdpau and ffvc1vdpau codecs? Because that works fine with me, and it seems faster.
So here I am again, with another thread about gnome shell.
