Using the "Install ubuntu along windows" option, what happens with the bootloaders?

http://askubuntu.com – After using virtual machines and wubi for the last few years I finally took the time to install ubuntu (12.04, LTS f*ck yeah) in a dual boot. I read some tutorials, but they seemed all different and they all recommended to use the "something else" option in the installation process. I didn't feel comfortable messing with partitions and thought it wouldn't be a bad thing to just use the "Install ubuntu along windows" option. I already had a C partition for windows and a D partition for data, both 250G, so I figured that Ubuntu would just shrink my C partition, place Ubuntu and swap in there (HowTos)
