I am using ubuntu11.10 64 bit version . while checking the user account i have changed my admin user as an standard user. As aresult there is no more admin user. and here the problem begins . whereever authentication is needed it is asking for admin password .
I'm struggling to get to grips with passwords. I've reinstalled twice to try to sort it but still have problems. I've learnt not to try to get rid of passwords. The current problem is that when I created an additional account (a standard one) it didn't ask me to create a password, so I didn't. I clicked to log on automatically.
Hi, I have a dedicated remote server that I access using x2go but I can't change the status of a user from standard to administrator. Because the unlock icon is inactive.
Can I do it using the command line?
Obs: already edited the user groups. Didn't change from standard to admin only by doing that.
Obs2: I'm accessing it with the admin account.
thanks.
Today I got myself in a bit of trouble...
Created a new a user account, gave it Admin privileges, and then deleted the account I had when first installing the OS. I thought I was safe... I thought all i needed to do was change from a standard user to admin....it wasn't really my fault i mean, im a windos junk. Low and behold the new account was unable to run a single sudo command. I gasped!
My "real" name displayed under Settings > Account Details seems to be different from what is set at Settings > User Management. Under User Management, I have my full name, but under Account Details it says my name is "Student". Long story, but this is how I'm guessing it happened...

My wife and I are using 12.04 on a laptop with different user profiles. I hold the admin rights, she is a standard user.
We dual boot with Vista.
Long story short: I have many accounts in WHM, many domains. However, most of the MySQL databases were created under one user, "admin" (let's say it's admin.com). I recently moved the admin.com account to another web server , and now I need to move it back. I would like to restore this account from a backup made by that web server.
I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed and have read many articles on finding a way to change the admin password as i forgot it after installing it a while ago. I have 2 users on this comp which i know the pass to 1 but the admin 1st user i can no longer get into. I have tried many ways like going through grub, root and trying to unmount.
Hi.
After creating a "standard" user (with an admin user), the standard user gets this error when trying to connect via ssh with a remote host:
asdf@asdfasdf:~$ ssh remote_user_name@company_server
/bin/bash: line 0: exec: connect: not found
ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host
After that, I have "upgrade" the standard user to make it administ
