Ubuntu includes the free commercial URW++ postscript fonts in /usr/share/fonts/type1/gsfonts (from the gsfonts package).
I've seen that the full set are also available in TrueType format (including several not in gsfonts, such as Garamond). If you download the ghostscript source, they're all there.
Is there any benefit to using the TrueType versions instead? Will the display improve?
Poking around in Root Explorer, I discovered the Fonts folder, which leads to two questions:
Do I understand correctly that the included ones are TrueType and other TrueType fonts should work?
How would I go about changing which one displays?
I just installed my Windows fonts like I normally do(/usr/share/fonts/truetype/fonts). I did sudo fc-cache -f -v and restarted. When I logged on and went too Google there were no fonts on the page. I tried other websites such as this forum, Neowin and Bing. All didn't have fonts. FontyPython said "Font may be bad and cannot be drawn."
with the latest update all the fonts in quantal kde are bold..
temporary workaround:
sudo rm /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-M.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ubuntu-font-family/Ubuntu-MI.ttf

I have a PDF in which the TrueType font OCRB is used, however the font is not embedded.
So I tried to install the font on my system (which is by the way a SLES11 SP2), I did the following things:
Double Clicked the font on gnome Desktop and clicked install
Copied it in the /user/home/username/.fonts folder
Copied it in the /usr/share/fonts
With root: SuSEconfig --module fonts
fc-cache
When I
The H Open: "The most important change is probably the demise of legal hurdles to using the bytecode interpreter for TrueType fonts. The interpreter significantly improves representation of TrueType fonts, but had been under patent protection."
I am trying to get the fonts in my wine programs in Arch to look as sharp as they are in #! but I don't know if I am missing a file. I am using infinality patches. Here's a screenshotOnly the actual programs fonts look blurry. The menu fonts and window decorations (or any fonts against the gray wine background) look normal.
I've installed the set of Helvetica Neue truetype fonts in my ~/.fonts directory, and they all show up correctly with fc-list.
