USB audio issues

http://forums.fedoraforum.org – Hi all, Maybe someone can shed some light on my problems. Fedora 12 theoretically has the handy "Sound" option in "Preferences" (a.k.a. gnome-volume-contol) that enables one to control what hardware devices are used to output sound, etc. However, I cannot, for the life of me, get it to work with any USB audio devices. When I plug in a USB audio device (I have both Bose Companion 5 speakers and a Razer Megalodon headset), it's detected properly (according to dmesg). I can play sound through them just fine using aplay. And I can configure certain programs (e.g. audacity) to use the devices. However, the Companion 5's don't show up in the Hardware section of gnome-volume-control at all and the headset only shows up as an input device (as it has a mike), so I can't get just general system sound to run through them. Any ideas? I apologize in advance for my general lack of knowledge of the intricacies of sound in Linux. :-) Thanks, ~Sirius (HowTos)
