I downloaded the Ubuntu 12.10 desktop iso using bittorrent (because it's faster) here.
I mounted the iso this way:
sudo mount -o loop ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.iso /media/cdrom
Then I'm stuck because there isn't an alternate install with a cdromupgrade script this time and I'm not really sure how to use apt-cdrom either.
Is there any way to use this image to upgrade my current installation w
Canonical dropped support to the alternate ISO's and they are not listed in the downloads page, how can I do a CD ROM upgrade now ?
I've got an alternate install which I have customized to my needs. But before distributing I want to change certain settings like default desktop background, system theme etc. I know I could've done this using squashfs had it been a live CD. But I have no idea how to do it on alternate installer.
Is it possible to achieve what I am trying to do. I am sure it is but I don't know how.
I am using Ubuntu 12.04 as host, and I plan to compile a new kernel. I downloaded the Linux-Libre kernel. When compiling the kernel, I would like to "Load alternate configuration".
I have an alternate kernel config, which is not the default Ubuntu config. How to use the alternate configuration ?
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade

i do not have the new kernels
vmlinuz-2.6.32-42-generic is newest in /boot
Is there some way to complete this?
I am a bit wary of rebooting it now..
tried mounting the alternative iso
sudo mount -o loop /home/mari
I am having problem with the installation of Lubuntu 11.10 .
I came across this term Alternate CD. How it different from a Live CD?
Also why cant we upgrade using a live cd while we can using an alternate one as mentioned here.
The link does not specify anything about the live cd.
A Nautilus folder will be opened automatically when inserting a CD in a drive. It is under Devices with name Audiodisk. As long as the files are accessed via Nautilus everything is fine.
The problem is that I can not find the cdrom files from the File System.
I found the package is marked as not recommend to use in production environment. So what's the alternate solution?
