I am looking for a tool to keep track of my servers, we use chef-solo everywhere but its hard to keep track. Any simple tool to keep track of servers like Spacewalk, but then simplified?
I use spacewalk for some servers I admin, but its a bit too bloated for what I want now. But how it does work great. We kickstart servers using chef-solo then register it with a static key with spacewalk.
I need to be able to rapidly deploy Ubuntu VMs for testing. Using Redhat Enterprise or Centos/Scientific I'd use Kickstart and Satellite/Spacewalk. It seems that Ubuntu only has limited Kickstart support, and their Spacewalk equivalent is Landscape (a paid for service), which has no free alternative.
Can anyone recommend any Ubuntu deployment/management tools?
Trying to make this script register host, two different spacewalk servers based on the distro and the last character of it's name.
The first if and elif condition work but after that it doesn't seem to honor the next if conditions. Anyone see what I'm doing wrong?
Right now I'm just testing the process for some desktop machines I'll be managing so I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04.04 LTS. We have a non-satellite spacewalk server that I'd like to have available for the main admins for these machines to use to manage these machines.
