Updating Phoenix BIOS on multiple Suse 9 Client

I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a vista laptop, but Dell is providing the BIOS update in .exe format currently my bios version is A09 but on the driver download site the latest version of bios is A011.

Hi! I own a Qosmio f50 laptop and today i download the file from toshiba to update my bios. Everything went well until installer reaches block 16 when system freezes. I left it half an hour and then tried to power-off the pc with the button, but it dont. I unplug the ac-adaptor and the battery and it closes, but when i power it on again I get a black screen.. Dear fellow Linux users,

I have a computer that came preinstalled with Windows 7. I have since installed Linux (yipee!) on the hard drive.

My Windows OS gives me a way to update the BIOS using the laptop manufacturer's program (some exe file). But I need to know if it's possible to change the BIOS from outside of Windows (either in Linux or some limbo-land).

I've been so called "humbled" once again //irritated as... I want to install BackTrack 5 R3 multi-booted on said "Lenovo Ivy Bridge i5's with windows 8, Phoenix Tiano BIOS. ( GJ ) How am I going to do this... ?

Why the heck don't motherboard and BIOS manufacturers display the BIOS version in a better place? They could display it on one of the BIOS setup screens - is that just too "far out" and crazy?

I am planning on building a tower server for myself, and I am interested to know the various physical and firmware protections that motherboard manufacturers place on bios and firmware upgrades. The last time I built a server, the motherboard had to be jumpered for the bios to be upgraded.
