Following a disappointing weekend for Motorola customers, the company has initiated a soak test for last year’s Atrix 2. Initially believed to be a minor Gingerbread update, the new firmware is actually Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
If you remember, a couple of days ago we told you about the soak test Motorola initiated for the Atrix 2. While most initially thought the test was an incremental update to Gingerbread, it was in fact the long-awaited update to 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Today we’re getting a look at exactly what that update entails via a screenshot from the “About Phone” option.
As owners of the original Atrix 4G wait patiently for their upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, Motorola has begun rolling out a minor software update to the Atrix HD. While it’s not Jelly Bean, version 77.12.22 does manage to address a slew of bugs that were apparent in the handset’s previous build.
It’s a sad day for early adopters of Motorola’s first dual-core handsets. In a statement made on the company’s support forum, it’s been revealed that the Atrix 4G, Photon 4G and Electrify will not be receiving updates to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and instead will remain on Gingerbread.
Motorola Atrix 2 owners are rejoicing today because AT&T started rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich update. We were expecting this but there is no doubt Atrix 2 owners will be happy to ditch Gingerbread. This update brings ICS favorites like Face Unlock, swipe away notifications and tabbed browsing.
Over the weekend we found out that Ice Cream Sandwich is coming to DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX users this week. Not only that, a soak test has started or is about to start and the build actually leaked. If it were me, I would wait for this bad boy to hit the over-the-air update. Motorola phones are little trickier since they haven’t provided a proper means to unlock the bootloaders.
Motorola Atrix 2 getting Ice Cream Sandwich OTA update in India
Motorola has started rolling out the Android 4.0 update for Atrix 2 users in India on 9/10/2012. The update is available over-the-air and via company’s update program.
Dubbed as version 672.1.18.MB865.AsiaRetail.EN.03, the update is 257MB in size.
Rumours this morning were that Motorola is working on a soak test for a Droid 3 software update. It looks like the team have been working fast as Verizon has just posted the official changelog online. Firmware version 5.7.905 is on the horizon and you might just want to make sure you have plenty of battery charge and a wifi connection for this one as it’s a whopping 224MB in size.
In what seems like ages, there’s finally good news for owners of the DROID Bionic. Motorola has purportedly invited Bionic owners to test out a new software update. It’s been reported that we would see Ice Cream Sandwich in the 4th quarter of this year for the Bionic, save for a few leaks.
