http://forums.fedoraforum.org РI have an update for the "bricked H270" issue: The issue is not the NVidia driver. It is actually the hardware probe that Fedora does, just before launching into the text-based setup (before anaconda.) This issue is present in both Fedora 11 and 12, and it manifests itself with the screen display dimming immediately after the the boot message "Waiting for hardware to initialize..." - but before the screen goes to a blue background, where you are offered the option to test the install media. A subsequent power-down (while the machine is also plugged into the mains) will render the screen inoperative upon all subsequent reboots. System boots fine - just no display. However, unplugging the machine from the mains, while it is turned off (wait for the battery symbol to disappear from the status LCD), will restore the machine to proper operation; a subsequent power-on (on mains or battery) will bring the screen back. Repeated experimentation on multiple machines (my fiancée and I both own one) bear this out as a predictable and easily-reproducible bug. After last time, I was emboldened slightly by the fact that I have a 5x24 on-site support contract for both laptops. ;) If anyone knows a good contact to start with, I'll report the issue; otherwise, I'll just go through official channels. Oh, and the good news: Fedora 12 appears to install okay on the H270. :) (HowTos)
