Hello
A friend and I recently got our hands on an old computer (a rainbow '83 I think), cleaned it, etc... And now we're trying to get the thing running. The problem is that the included OS is badly documented, so I thought of installing an old version of UNIX on it. So the questions are: Is that computer compatible with a unix os?
Hello guys,
I am new to Unix, because of low RAM, i want to install Unix terminal (command line) without the GUI. Basically, i want to install two Unix OS (without the GUI) on VMware and make a TCP connection between them. I have a total of 2GB RAM on the host computer running window 7, so i want a light version of Unix so that it all runs smoothly.
I know there are a lot of questions like this, but I certain this one is rare. I am a computer programmer who wants to take on the challenge of building an operating system. I want to base it on Unix because I know that what I make could never compare. Where can I find Unix? I don't mean things like Mint (that's Linux, I know). I mean the thing they are all based on.
I'm planning to learn Unix/Linux as much as possible to be able to expert on Unix system.
I have a few questions in regard to Unix system
1. How come they are so many different type of Linux, and do they follow same standard commands in the Unix system? I'm afraid of having so many choices selecting right type of system.
2.
hi!
my computer is...
system: Digital Personal Workstation 433a
Processor: Digital Alpha 21164, 433 MHz
Memory: 64 MB
Operating System: Digital Unix Console(SRM), Digital Unix V4.0D
That computer is used for radar display. Application run on Unix. I have a problem now.
I'm learning off Linux (Ubuntu) right now. I want to move up to Unix, but I don't want to rush like I did when it came to Windows --> to Linux. What is the best Unix OS that fits in pretty well with Ubuntu.
In other words is there kind of an equal Linux with Unix?
Also what do I need to really know about Unix?
Hello to everyone,
I'm new here and would like to thank everybody for the upcoming support, I know that I will have my question answered here, this community is huge. :)
First of all, I´m a DBA and work on a daily basis on Unix environments of all kinds (HP-UX, Solaris, AIX, etc).
Are they only the Unix’s developed by Bell Labs or do the SCO ones count too? Are there others?
Is Oracle Solaris officially declared UNIX?
I want to know all the official UNIX presently available in the market (whether free or paid).
Please correct me if I am wrong:
To the best of my knowledge, an operating system must satisfy all the terms and conditions as laid by the owners of "UNIX", The Open Group, to be coined as UNIX.
Linux is an UNIX-like kernel almost resembling UNIX but still ope
