Universal, Opensource Filesystem

http://superuser.com – Greetings all experts! I have just bought myself a new Seagate 2TB external harddrive and am considering what filesystem to use on it. The problem is that I need a filesystem that is universally accessible (read and write) as I plan to use it across multiple operating systems (EDIT: I intend to use this drive on computers where it would be too much trouble to install drivers/software before being able to use the drive.) is without limitations such as filesize (e.g. FAT32's 4GB limitation), permissions, etc. is open-source - I despise anything proprietary, especially Microsoft I have read (HowTos)
