Out of a sudden after I logging in to the 'Ubuntu' session Unity or maybe Compiz doesn't start anymore (actually I'm not sure wether it is Compiz or Unity).
This simple tutorial will explain how to restart unity and unity-2d in Ubuntu. Normally we need to restart unity only when meet a “no response” problem.
I recently learned about Compiz and I had read that Unity was comparable to windows aero... so that left me wondering, if Compiz isn't a desktop enviroment, what is it? And is it possible for Compiz and Unity to coexist?
Enabling Compiz Fusion On An Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop (With The Unity Desktop)
This tutorial shows how you can enable Compiz Fusion on an Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) desktop with the Unity
interface (the system must have a 3D-capable graphics card which I
assume it has because otherwise Unity wouldn't start, and GNOME would be
used instead).
i am in 12.10 and when i was tweaking the unity bar suddenly went away!!
restart does nothing
I had ccsm installed so through the terminal i launched ccsm in there i went to the desktop option and Ubutnu unity plugin was no there
another answer to another question told me to type unity --reset
This then relpied that
"the program 'unity' is currently not installed.
I recently upgraded my computer to a brand new motherboard and SSD and installed a fresh version of Oneiric Ocelot (Ubuntu 11.10) alongside of my other operating systems.
The most serious problem I've experienced is when using the Compiz configuration settings manager. Every time I enable or disable a plugin, the Unity desktop crashes. It's specifically a conflict with the Unity plugin.
I am running Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal on a machine that is more than powerful enough to support unity.
First off, my setup:
GUI boot is disabled. I boot into tty after which I use sudo lightdm to get to the desktop,
I have bumblebee installed to enable Optimus for my nVidia GT 540M graphics card.
I have enabled edge triggers in CCSM.
I ask this as with the Unity Desktop running , when I try any games with my Ubuntu 12.04.1 build you get so much frame rate drop with Unity and Compiz- If i switch to Gnome Classic which uses mutter I believe you get a vast boost in performance.
My system is an 8 core AMD with a Nvidia 460 SE that can play anything I chuck at it in Windows and Im using the latest Nvidia drivers, but simple games
A few days ago, I was running Unity when suddenly it crashes. Now I can't launch Unity/Compiz anymore. It simply gave a segmentation fault and gave up. Can anyone help me diagnose the problem? It's really annoying me.
