Hi there,
I've recently bought a new PC, installed Ubuntu and am now unable to get 5.1 digital sound working.
I have a computer running 12.04 LTS and I have only ever downloaded 12.04 on this PC (I had PuppyLinux but it was from a live CD, and Windows XP Home but it was not activated.)
So when I hit the sound options from the top panel, the only sound option I get for output (to speakers/headphones etc) is the dummy output and I have a soundcard (embedded to the motherboard) and Ubuntu does not pick up
I installed 11.10 ubuntu on clean install (I had 10.04 earlier but I wanted the newer version) last night and updated it. But now my ubuntu has no sound. I tried to go to sound settings to check sound output devices, but there is not any devices.
For my computer, I am running Ubuntu 11.10 along side with Windows Vista. Ubuntu is 64-bit version.
Hi, I am new to ubuntu and linux. I have just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my lap top (a Itautec infoway n8610 ss) and it works perfectly... except for the sound. I can´t get any sound from my pc, it worked well with my windows vista but it is not working now. I tried to find the driver for the on-board soundcard to, maybe, replace it, but I can't even find it.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop. Now at first glance everything seemed to be Ok. My computer has two sound cards, one is integrated Nvidia soundcard and second one is Creative X-FI. First I plugged my speakers on to my X-Fi card which I downloaded drivers for. How ever I did not manage to bring out any audio out of it.
I've installed a tv card but I can't hear the sound through my built-in CMedia soundcard when I watch tv with TVTime. The tv card's audio output is externally connected to my soundcard's line in input. In the 'Input' tab of the 'Sound Preferences' dialog, I can see the input level meter moving.
I have Realtek soundcard on my HP-430 notebook but I can't seems able to have it's HD sound experience. The sound is lousy compared to Windows 7.
I've been searching all over the 'www' to find any Realtek Audio Manager for linux or some sort of it but have no luck. All I could find is Realtek Soundcard driver form their website.
I don't want go back to Windows 7 because of it.
Here's the output from lspci:

The soundcard I want to use is the onboard one, Realtek.
My motherboard is: Asus m4a79xtd-evo
Graphics card: AMD / ATI HD5770
This only happens from reboot to reboot, sometimes I have sound, other times I don't :(
Any answer would be greatly appreciated, I'm also trying to solve the problem by my own :S
Should I use fglrx or the ones
