I installed ChrUbuntu on an Acer C7 Chromebook, and I am able to dual boot Ubuntu 12.04 and ChromeOS and to control which OS loads by default. I tried to edit the /etc/default/grub file and did run update-grub successfully but saw no effects. I was trying to enable a "dmesg" style verbose system loading screen instead of the quiet splash screen (during the Ubuntu boot).
I was thinking of buying a Chromebook and installing Chrubuntu on it as a cheap laptop if I go travelling later in the year. The question I have is whether it's possible to encrypt the Ubuntu partitions when installing on the Chromebook? This is fairly important since if the thing gets stolen I don't want personal data exposed to the thief.

Is there a general way to tell if an installed app is 32-bit or 64-bit?
And if I'm on 64-bit ubuntu, do 64-bit versions of apps automatically get installed if there is one available (using the sudo apt-get install)? I.e.
I have already read all the websites and the other forum topics regarding this and I have watched about 5 youtube videos, it all comes down to nothing is working.
Hi,
I recently installed ubuntu 11.04 on my old laptop. It is a compaq with an AMD Semprom Processor 3000+ and 512mb of ram, obviously it runs with many laggs on it specially when i try to open the ubuntu software center. So I was wondering what version of Ubuntu can i install and have a smooth experience.
I recently tried installing the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 12.04 along side a 32-bit version of Ubuntu 11.10. But after completion of installation, the system always directly boots to the 11.10 version.
I've installed apache2 on my ubuntu machine using the apt-get package manager. It installed apache 2.2.16. I'd like to upgrade to the latest (or at least a newer version) of apache2 but apt-get upgrade and update don't seem to find a newer version. When I type
apt-get install -s apache2
It tells me
apache2 is already the newest version.
Do I need to download this package manually?
I just purchased a lenovo thinkpad sl510, and as a long time ubuntu user, I'm looking to install it on the new machine. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best version to use? I installed 11.04 x64 a few days ago, and the wireless was an absolute terror. Almost everything failed to resolve, thus rendering the computer mostly useless as a portable computer.
