I'm trying to install Wine on Ubuntu Precise. I'm used to using aptitude for package management, so I tried to use that to install Wine. When I do that, I'm told I have to resolve dependencies that end up leaving me with 21 packages being uninstalled!
Aptitude GUI is a graphical version of Aptitude we talked about in our previous post. As Aptitude has already been removed from official repository of Ubuntu, one cant expect to see this GUI based Aptitude by default in Ubuntu Precise Pangolin.
Hello,
I installed the distribution version of wine, through aptitude, but I wanted to have the latest commits to try a game which doesn't work yet with the 1.4 version in the distribution's repos. So I cloned, compiled and installed, in /usr/local/bin, and now it's complaining about another version of the wineserver being on the path, which is true, the distribution's one, in /usr/bin.
When I try to install Wine, PlayonLinux, and some other programs, I get the following message:

I installed Wine 1.4 rc5. Later I realised that this wine won't work because there is no sound. I removed it using Synaptic Package Manager and installed Wine 1.2 which is the stable version of Ubuntu 10.04. Even though I install it. It's still showing Wine 1.4 rc-5. How can I remove wine 1.4-rc5 and install Wine 1.2 ?
Yes, I know it's a beta so things may just be broken. But I thought I'd ask just in case somebody can help.
I usually use 10.04, and I play a game using WINE that works fine. I thought I'd try it on 12.04, but a patch won't install. WINE errors saying "Internal errors - Invalid parameters received".
I'm trying to install wine but there are a lot of dependencies, which I can't remove.
If I choose no, them even more dependencies are asked to be removed.
Any idea how to install it?
rodhash@preciousSS:~$ sudo aptitude install wine
The following NEW packages will be installed:
binfmt-support{a} cabextract{a} fonts-droid{a} fonts-horai-umefont fonts-unfonts-core{a} gcc-4.7-base:i386{a} gettex
It is driving me insane.
It happens to me with the official repositories or the ubuntu-wine PPA, with any WINE version.
In terminal, sudo apt-get install wine, or sudo apt-get install wine1.5 or sudo apt-get install 1.4...:
Code:
Some packages could not be installed.
