https://bbs.archlinux.org – I recommend using the device filename (as in "root=/dev/sda1"). This was the original method used, years ago, long before UUIDs and GUIDs were supported for this sort of thing. It's also the shortest one to type, and so is the least likely to fall victim to a typo. Of course, using UUIDs and GUIDs (aka PARTUUIDs) has advantages, so you may want to switch eventually; but at the very least, using the device filename should be a useful debugging step. If it fails, too, that most likely means you've got a problem with hard disk device drivers or something; if a UUID or GUID/PAR (HowTos)
