http://ubuntuforums.org – Hello there, I am brand spanking new to Ubuntu. I recently purchased a new laptop and decided to turn my previous one into a Linux machine. I have set it up as 2 partitions, 1 running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and the other running Ubuntu Studio 9.04 Jaunty for music/graphics fun. Both OS's are of the 64-bit flavor. The machine is a Dell Inspiron 1720, CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 ghz, 4 GB RAM, Nvidia 8600M GT video card. In Ubuntu (standard), I had not problems downloading and installing the video driver package from NVidia's website, but Ubuntu Studio will not allow it to build the kernel module. Do I need to apt a package? What can I do to get my vid card running on the most up to date driver build? Also, I think that my RAM will allow me to add some bling to the Studio environment without causing too much issue with latency, but would like to hear from someone with more knowledge about that, if you don't mind. Thanks in advance, Tim (Hardware)
