I have a xorg.conf that works in Ubuntu 9.10.
The xorg.conf adds a new modeline and setup dual monitors.
Recently, I tried Xubuntu 11.10, and sadly found that the same xorg.conf doesn't work anymore.
To be more precisely, I did see the wallpaper showed in the correct resolution in the beginning, but then my first monitor, Dell 2007FP, turned black.
I checked with xrandr -q, and found that the new
Well ever since I have used dual monitors with the NVIDIA X Server Settings program my xorg process has been crashing after a while, and its generally a pretty long while of like 6 hours afterwards. Before NVIDIA changed my xorg.conf file I only had xorg crash like twice in 2 months, I can't figure out what is going on.
I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 recently and have noticed that my resolution is getting automatically changed when launching some apps like thunderbird. It does not happen all of the time and simply copying the old xorg.cong backup file to xorg.conf and restarting X temporarily resolves the issue. However, I would to fix this so that a restart of X is no longer needed.
Unfortunately, I did not save the Xorg.0.log of fglrx. So I only wrote what I remember because I had to reinstall the xf86-video-ati drivers to have X working.I have only one problem with Radeon/KMS/Xorg drivers in EFI and BIOS modes. When I go in full screen mode (Ctrl_Alt+f) with qemu(-kvm), I get a white/black screen flicking. I have to Control-Backspace-Delete and go back to console.
Initially X does not use xorg.conf. So suppose I have a certain monitor installed with the system, then X will be set in accordance to that monitor.
If I change the monitor after a reboot, what problems will I face?...will X work properly? How does X handle this situation?
I updated my xorg.conf file looking to set up a duel screen system. Unfortunately, I can't provide you this file because when I went to reboot my system crashed.
The last line I get when I try to reboot is: "Started SYSV: Enabled monthly update of Smolt .... PC/SC...t data.ump directory for each oops....resses.
Due to the lost access to the consoles 1-6 (as consequence of an installation of amd catalyst driver) and a failed attempt to remove fglrx using the instructions of el_koraco i checked my /etx/X11 directory and i found out that obviously the installer of the fglrx driver does not save the old xorg.conf as xorgconf-old (like presumed in the manual) but as xorg.conf.old-0 (and so on).
I have the same gfx cards as youmy setup:remove all the (nvidia, intel, noveau, etc) and install xf86-video-fbdevremove xorg.conf and any xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf you might haveremove any reference to vga or nomodeset from your /boot/grub/menu.lstreboot and startxyou should be able to have your screen in mirrormy problem is that I'm unable to have dual screen and I've tried installing
I've been having screen resolution issues with my ancient PC & generic monitor - after some digging through the forum I found a temporary fix using xrandr (so I know it's not a driver/card issue). Unfortunately though, I need to go through the process of setting up a new mode every time I reboot. There doesn't seem to be an Xorg.conf file on my system anywhere for me to modify.
