[ubuntu] Wirless & Visual Effects

So I finally managed to install Ubuntu 12.04.1 on my G5 iMac but I don't want any fancy visual effects. How do I disable those?

Hey guys!!! I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on an old hardware. Everything is working perfectly but when i'm disabling visual effects, my desktop works slower. I mean when i want to see my desktop the desktop icons pop up slower and when im making a drag box with mouse it begins to freeze! Turning visual effects to normal solves this problem, but i don't want these effects to be on.

Hi, I'm having some trouble running the Extra or Normal Settings in the Appearance/Visual effects setting on ubuntu 8.10 kernel 2.6.31-12. with an Intel GMA X4500HD. I get an error message that says "Desktop Effects could not be enabled."

I'm trying to get compiz to run and avant dock does not seem to respond either without the Visual effects enabled.

Hi everybody! Couple of weeks ago tried to install the driver from official Nvidia site and it worked perfect with all the visual effects until first reboot and then i couldn't fix it so i switched to restricted drivers now.

Motherboard in a emachine. Everything works straight out of the box with Ubuntu 8.10 (32bit). Enabling visual effects in system>preferences>appearance causes problems with fonts and window rendering, but who really needs fancy effects. Problems with vid...

I have 9.04 x86 installed. It worked great, and then I installed Kubuntu-Desktop. I don't know what happened here, and I think I've removed everything, but now I'm stuck with a crappy problem and I don't know how to solve it.

I am using firefox as my web browser.I installed a addone named cooliris to my firefox.It gives amazing visual effects when i am on-line.I can visualize pictures of my heard disk when i am on-line with that visual effect but I couldn't get it when i am off line.

Hi, First, I'm rather new to Ubuntu (installed it like 3 days ago?). Anyway, I thought it would be nice to play some good old titles which, unfortunately, support nothing but Windows. The solution - Wine. Sure. I've installed COD MW1 and MW2 so far, and both run nice apart from a weird visual glitch - instead of smoke/fog effects, I get a weird... surface, flashing red/black/whatever.
