Trying to help a friend with a new laptop set up a dual-boot system. We had an issue with wireless.
Laptop Model: Dell Studio 1558.
The built in wireless is an Intel® 6250 Wireless-N w/WiMAX (2x2) Mini Card
When the install first completed wireless was disabled, and in my search I found the rmmod/blacklist method using the string "dell_laptop" to get around the wireless switch issue.
Hi All,
I have a new Dell Studio 1558 with Lucid 64-bit installed and have been struggling with the wireless for quite a while now. Generally when I boot the wireless will connect properly, but at some random point in the future (eg. in 30 mins) it will just disconnect and ask for the password again. It then often has trouble re-connecting, sometimes requiring a reboot.
I have recently just downloaded ubuntu 11.10 and before i installed, wireless worked perfectly in windows. Now that i have downloaded and installed ubuntu, i know longer have windows. I do not have a wired connection at my house, only a mifi, so my computer is useless now without internet. I really like the functionality of ubuntu, but need internet.
It seems a lot of people are having this problem, but none of the posted solutions have worked for me so far. My driver is installed and activated, I have tried removing and re-adding the network, and various other fixes.
Hi I just deleted my windows XP and installed Ubuntu 9.10 earlier this morning. I used wired connection to get drivers for my wireless network card.
When I did lspci, the very last line states:
Network Controller: Broadcom Coporation BCM4311 902.11b/g WLAN(rev 01)

Hello:
I am on Lucid 64 bit on a Dell M6400. I use both wired and wireless networks at home, with wired being my preferred method when in my home office. When I am connected via the wire, I turn off the wireless NIC via the switch on the laptop.
i am new to Ubuntu & just installed it on my HP mini laptop, when i open the network tab it does not show the wireless networks around me, neither does it show mine, i have enabled networking but it still does not pick up any wireless.
